When I Die

By: molly rose parker

I tried to be nice
and I tried to show love,
And when I did my best
they always proved me wrong.
They laughed when I fell,
and they pointed when I cried,
But little do they know
that I tried and tried and tried.
Then I stopped caring
and damaged myself beyond compare,
While the people I knew gathered around,
and stared as I lay there.
They told me not to let go
for the sake of my family and friends,
But little do they know
that's why I wanted to end.
Everyone told me lies
and that was all I knew,
And now that I have the chance to leave them alone
they all turned quite blue.
Sometimes I wonder
why people are the way they are,
and a little voice inside me replied:
That's all they know how to be,
and they just don't like me.
