Fading Dreams

By: Kevin Strong

I came home and went to sleep
I closed my weary eyes
Dreams began to come to me
But this was no surprise

A woman, she was standing there
Like she has done before
I've had this dream many a time
And each nigh, I want it more

She speaks to me, whispers my name
My heart picks up the time
I look up to where she stands,
Shivers rack my spine

Her arms are open, welcoming
A smile lights her face
We close the distance quickly
And softly- we embrace

We hold each other in our arms
And whisper words of love
It seems as if the Angels
Have come down from above

I tilt her head, to see her eyes
Deep and bright and blue
And run my hands through her hair
A lovely crimson hue

Then comes my favorite part
When we exchange a kiss
But this never comes to pass
It's what I always miss

Just before our lips do meet
She starts to fade away
There is nothing I can do
To try and make her stay

I wake up, a tear in my eye
And an empty space in the soul
It's so hard to have the dream
Then have to let it go

But every night, as I lay down
I hope it comes again
And, perhaps, when it does
Then I will see it end
