A Broken Spirit

By: Monica Sarn'e Carter

It's hard trying to write from your heart,
when there's nowhere to start.
Your heart is broken, like shattered glass.
Memories are vivid, but barely there.

Trying to think of all the things you could have done,
and less about the person you should have been.
Your self-esteem isn't high or low.
That reflection in the window is all you know.

Your heart got broke, so you gave up hope,
on the most important thing-living again.
Your dreams only occur when you're fast asleep,
and your goals are like the moonlight, hard to reach.

Everything in your life is a broken promise,
and what you thought was love, was to spare the moment.
The only light in your life is outside that front door.
You long for the moment, nothing matters anymore.

You wish for happiness
When nothing seems to come,
and pray for the best,
when your spirit's at rest.
