glance

By: S H R

a glance over her shoulder as she walks away again
into uncertainty, but certainly away from me.
the timing was just not right.
impressions, memories and fascinations
stored away until future notice,
consolidated into highlights.

forget the tears, the screams and goodbyes,
except the ones that happened all at once.
moving on is the hardest result to accept,
it's easy to let life push you into a corner.
underestimating yourself as time trickles past.
carting emotions, clearing the way for apathy, which rules.

until the night when impressions,
memories and fascinations, fade into the ingredients
of who we were, what we were, but not who i am.

sometimes things that could have been don't go away,
they just hide for awhile
sometimes paths are just meant to cross.

here's to walking confidently into uncertainty.
