Tears

By: Patrick Canale

Tears are the only gift I can give you anymore
It's the only feeling coming from this sore.
They relieve some of the pain
but in the end, lead to no gain.
Why do you treat me like I don't exist?
And when you do, it's with screaming and fists.
Am I not good enough to have a life of my own,
Or am I just here to be your drone.
What did I ever do to you,
For you to treat me like you do?
From you, I can't seem to part,
And it seems you like to leave me in the dark.
To fend for my own
Makes me feel so alone.
Why can't I let you go?
My friends ask "why?" and I can only say I don't know.
One day I'll find a way out.
I will finally be able to travel that route
That was hidden from me for so long.
I will be relieved from what held on so strong
The only one who made me feel so small
Was you, it was you after all.
I can't believe I let myself do this again and again
Shedding another tear seems like bleeding through the skin.
I attempt to forget but there you are once more
Pleading for forgiveness, healing the sore...
Or that's what I like to believe.
But when I get close I know you will leave
For you, I refuse to cry anymore.
No more wasted tears falling to the floor.
I'm lost with you not here, but better without.
Time will help me figure this out...
