For Such Treachery We Grieve

By: Jared Lee Dudgeon

Ask not heart- for such treachery we grieve,
it was too dark a night that cloaked love,
that when love approached thee it did deceive;
for your eyes were searching for love above.

In the distance I did see her fast approach,
as she was donned in her darkest attire,
and such a stranger to this encroach,
but thou were in search for too fair a desire.

For, as our lives to each other did pass,
and our eyes casually did exchange a glance,
I knew it was love that approached at last,
but it was too late for a loving romance.

It is such a dreadful mistake as this,
that love had finally, to us, passed by;
that time would have my lips left unkissed,
and your plee failing to merit a reply.

But worry not my unrequited heart,
for upon the night she shall come again,
and next time we shall not let her depart,
leaving 'neath our breast this dreadful sin!
