The Girl That I Am

By: Amanda Lynn Lilly

I am the girl that I am, and I can't change that
I wonder why you hurt me like you did
I hear your lies playing over and over in my head
I see you laughing as if you've forgotten about our past
I want you to realize how badly you hurt me
I am the girl that I am, and I can't change that

I pretend you never cheated on me, even though you did
I feel so betrayed, so used
I touch my tear-stained cheeks as I think of what you did to me
I worry that if I ever love another, it will all just happen to me
again
I cry because of all the lies you told me, of all the lies I believed
I am the girl that I am, and I can't change that

I understand that you don't love me anymore
I speak the words I know to be true
I dream we'll be together again, even though I really don't want it
to happen
I try to get on without you, and I do it quite well
I wish I could forget about you, erase your memories, but I can't,
you hurt me entirely too bad
I am the girl that I am, and I can't change that

You were the first love I ever knew, but definitely not the last
And after all the lies you told me and what you put me through
The biggest lie of all was when you said, "I love you"

In case you haven't noticed yet
I am the girl that I am, and I can't change that
So you might as well just get used to it!!!
