Just Three Words

By: Daniel Lazarus Garcia

They're just three words but, three words I can't say.
At least not yet, but maybe one day.
For I do not wish to regret saying them in any way,
But every night I can't help but want to say
Those three words, those eight letters, that one phrase.
Three words that, just to hear, the heart hopes and prays.
Eight letters that are expressed in so many ways.
One phrase that in the heart forever stays.
And that is, "I love you."
It's just hard after all that I've been through.
I've been through so much and I know you have, too.
So, I'm taking my time; I'm taking it slow, so when I do
Say, "I love you," I'll be sure that it's true.
But till then, just know that I do care about you,
And we have nothing but time, so let's continue,
Because I know one day my dream will come true.
A dream in which I say, "I love you."
And in return, I hear that you love me, too.
