Longing

By: Susan Beth Helms

The girl stands on the oceans foot
As the waves crash over her feet
Longingly staring into the cold black sky
As a tear runs down her cheek
She feels a familiar hand placed gently on her shoulder
And it calms her tears
Her body twists towards him to look into his eyes
as her stomach knots with fears...
She remembers the good times, memories, and all
Could I have been that stupid I knew not to fall...
Not to fall in love with his charm and his touch
How could I love him and miss him this much
But summer ended and so did we
We will always keep in touch is the promise he made me
For a few weeks we did and all was well
But weeks and still no word I began to tell
That he was drifting away as everday went by
I am trying my hardest not to cry
And just let go and tell my self he'll call
How could I have let myself fall?
But for now until he comes around
and finds me still waiting here
I keep that one starry night and that one special tear
Within my heart those thoughts will always be
Until he comes back and stays with me.
