It's Not Your Fault
It's not your fault you died inside;
Your job didn't allow you to feel.
But, I am left with just a shell,
And a heart that will never heal.
I know you want to make us whole,
I believe you think you can.
But, too many years of wearing the badge,
Destroyed my husband, the man.
With every homicide, suicide and rape you saw
A brick was placed inside.
A wall now stands that will not bend,
Around your heart and mind.
I tell you this, so you will know,
I curse the badge you wear.
I damn the force, and hate the job,
For it made you just not care.
So, I give you the city, to protect and serve,
As I walk out the door -
This is the only way that I can survive,
...I can't love you any more.
