I CAME HERE TO THE LAND OF PLENTY
I came here to the land of plenty,
From the road, dusty at dawn.
Free to live and free to run,
I was escorted by the sun.
I stretched my hand to the new horizon,
This was the longing of my heart.
Just like an actor in his play-
I drew the lines, I knew my part.
I sang the songs, within my art.
When my eyes close, I remember
My first steps towards the heights.
With youth in my bloodstream, I got taken
Beneath the silence of the night.
As my footsteps took me further
I then did learn just how to run.
I felt the rainbow in all its colors,
Again escorted by the sun.
The two graves I now visit,
One just fresh, the other misty.
Is this the land that I'm to love,
Or is my time just wasted?
I wish I could again recapture
My father's dreams, my brother's love,
And then that I could leave forever,
Heading back east, on wings of a dove.
As I got older, I remember
Things that the old man used to preach,
That everything is not for keeps,
Even the things that seemed within the reach.
I came here to the land of plenty
from the road dusty at dawn;
Free to live and free to run,
I was escorted by the sun.
