I Left My Raincoat Behind For The Walk Of Love

By: Alyssa Anne Vitry

Walking in the rain without my raincoat
I waited until the weather was unsure before I left.
I waited 'till the clouds towered overhead and the thunder
roared away the silence.
Until I new I'd most likely get wet.

Walking in the rain with my head held high
I can see the lightning before me.
See it touching down, disturbing all that's peaceful
I can see the destruction left behind- and I walk towards it.

Walking in the rain I'm defenseless
I let the rain caress my face and drown my thoughts.
I tempt the thunder to my listening ears
I know the unpredictable chaos of the lightning- yet I walk on.

Walking in the rain upon a road called love
I see the heartache calling to me as the puddles build.
Pain waits and roars in my head like the thunder- warning.
Unknown experiences wait to strike just like the lightning above-
yet, I walk on.

I won't stop my journey in the rain which falls like feathers
and some of it like knives.
I left my raincoat at home on the stairs for a purpose.
I hold my head up high knowing what I'll face.
I'm scared but stubborn and heartache loves to cling-

I'll prove it wrong.
