As The First Days
After the first day we met...
Night after night I stayed up under the light
Trying to spin out a few lines of poetry
Just for a little praise from you, after a white night.
You entered into my rosy dreams;
The days of pursuit have brought immense rewards.
Your looks and glances full of love
Filled my world with rainbows.
The sweetness of sugar cane and all tropical fruit
Was nothing to compare with the sweetness of your lips.
The forbidden fruit tempted irresistibly on the top of the tree.
Was it like it in the garden of Eden a long, long time ago?
Along the ups and downs in life,
Along the road of happiness and pain,
Along the hills and valleys of love,
we have had each other.
Will it be enough to last 100 years,
Through poverty and tears
and through abundance and smiles
With you and me?
