Standing Still
You had to leave
For awhile we grieved
Yet as it oft times happens
Life moves forward
Binding us to new worlds
Blinding us to old ones
I do wonder from time to time
For all my moving ahead
I stand still
Feeling the winds tugging
Storms shoving at me
Yet tall and silent I stand
Battered by past and future
Watching the planets
As they rotate around the sun
Spinning through time
Awaiting their own death
Knowing that like those planets
For all my standing still
I too will leave
My own immortal mark
