The Last Goodbye
A silent tear ran down her cheek,
As she reached out for my hand.
The pain that she was feeling,
I did not understand.
Each wrinkle around her tiny eyes,
Held a memory from her past.
Perhaps of joy and laughter,
Or a truth that would never last.
Though her body forever grew older,
Her spirit always stayed young.
Her end was slowly nearing,
Though she had somehow just begun.
Who could tell that beyond her skin,
Her body was slowly dying?
Though she laughed and smiled on the outside,
Her soul was softly crying.
She never cried a painful tear,
For anyone else to see.
God called upon her to leave this world,
And I knew it was meant to be.
On this day she drew me close,
And told me we'd never part.
We may not be together now,
But she's always in my heart.
She said she loved me one last time,
And she told me not to cry.
I lost a part of my life that day,
As we said our last goodbye.
In loving Memory Of My Great-Grandmother,
