Letting Go

By: Meagan Saunders

Watching the tears slide down the young woman's face,
I tried to figure out why the young woman's face looked so familiar.
As she cried with the pain of a broken heart,
I, too, felt a sharp pain in my heart.
I reached out to the young woman who appeared to be hurting so.
And I was met with a cold, hard surface,
A wall put up to protect herself from getting hurt any further.
Finally, I picked up the poor girl,
and watched as she fell crashing to the ground,
shattering into tiny pieces.
A strange feeling came over me, and I smiled,
Realizing that I had just let go of the girl inside of me
that was left with a broken heart. And that her image was myself,
looking into a mirror, as I shed my final tears of good-bye.
