You Had My Love

By: Corri Harris

I saw you yesterday sitting in your brown truck, smoking,
As I walked up, you jumped out.
I wanted to open your door and sit with you,
but I guess I was only hoping.
The only reason I came here was to see you,
But I casually ask you for a cigarette
as you tell me a story about your Mom.
So here we awkwardly stand...
neither knowing what to say or do.

When your eyes met mine I can't help but remember the way you cared
The phone calls, letters, and oh!, that sweet first kiss.
Then the phone call telling me it was over, how? After all we shared?
I was ready to give you my whole heart without fear
But you chickened-out and ran from me.
But that doesn't change a thing, I'm still here.

I never stopped loving you...
Even when you turned your back on me.
I've tried to move on, but I can't have someone new,
My heart still yearns to be next to yours.
Without you here, I've never felt such pain.
And I know deep in my heart I'm the one for which your soul soars.

You turn away and quickly go to leave,
Am I making you uncomfortable, making you remember your past?
Do you think of me, listen to our tape and greive?
Have you even shed a tear?
Do you see me in your dreams?
Do you wake up wondering if I'll still be here?

My heart breaks when I see you at this place,
Memories of the first time you showed me off,
How we worked face to face.
You were my soul for a time.
And when that time is done,
Are you able to trade it in again for a small silvery dime?

You had my love,
You gave it away.
And now forever I will not stay.
You had my love,
And I know,
That no amount of love can make love grow.
