Sweet Memories

By: Meghan Raye Willardson

I remember the porch light
on that cool summer's night.
The soft music that you played
just seemed to take my breath away.
And when you started to sing along,
my heart took flight to your song.
We talked and laughed for two hours straight,
then it started to get late.
You gave me a free cd of songs,
and I listened to it all night long.
I promised to come see you play,
at Rocky Mountain, one week from that day.
I was so excited I told all my friends,
and couldn't wait for that week to end.
Finally that magical night rolled around,
and my heart began to pound.
I told my friends you were fine,
and how bad I wanted you to be mine.
Then me and my friends started goofing around,
You said "don't drop her, Kevin" as he spun me around.
All night I thought about how we said we'd dance,
but then I thought I didn't have a chance.
Then as the slow music began to pour,
you took my hand and walked me out onto the floor.
I was surprised and happy at the same time,
and when you started to sing I knew it was a sign.
I wanted that dance to last forever,
but holding you tight I knew I’d never.
Finally it was time to go,
but I told you I’d be back tomorrow for your other show.
You drove me home that night and we talked some more,
and when we got there you walked me to my door.
I came and saw you that next day,
and three dances we promised to sway.
So that night me and Melissa returned,
excited, happy, and kind of concerned.
We talked through most of the night,
when I found out you liked me I knew it was alright.
I waited almost all night long,
for the dances of some three songs.
The first two were nice,
and we held each other tight.
The third one was the best,
when you sang my request.
The song "The Dance" now has special meaning,
and every time I hear it, I hear you singing.
Two days after that night...
I spent the whole day at your house,
and we decided that being a couple would work out.
That we also had a little water fight,
and it made us laugh with much delight.
From there on out, we spent every minute together,
and days seemed to float by like feathers.
One day after deciding to date,
we had our first kiss and ohmygosh it was great!

I fell I love with everything,
especially his daughter Nastassia,
who is an adorable thing.
There is also his smile, his hair, and his eyes,
and his singing talent was a great surprise.
Our relationship was perfect for the first month,
we missed each other if we were separated once.
And we treated each other great,
and I knew it was fate.
That brought us together,
and we'd stay that way forever.
Then one day something went wrong,
and our hearts stopped playing the same love song.
Two weeks of fighting then went by,
and finally we talked and decided to say goodbye.
It broke my heart in two,
but I knew it was the right thing to do.
We're still friends, thank God for that,
I don't think I’d make it through without that.
