Desperate Lover

By: Sunday B. Fakus

Every day and every night
He bent down on his table
Brooding over how to please her
And how to turn her life around

He rendered her a selfless service of love
And removed every obstacle on her way
That wasn’t enough, she said
She wanted to be led to the altar

Three times she’s been married
Four times she’s been jilted
Past experience didn’t matter to her
All she wanted was the wedding ring

How could that be possible?
When all she did was two-timing
Living a life of double standard
She loved him at cross-purposes

That’s a tip of the iceberg
Of the secret motive of a desperate lover
She would settle for nothing less
Than a wedding ring in her finger

In her quest for a wedding ring
She doesn’t care how many hearts are broken
Leaving him after finding a new lover
Is nothing new in her world of betrayal

Desperate lover she is indeed
Not for love but for wedlock alone
Definite plan she didn’t have
Than to love and break many hearts.
