Be Mine

By: Steven Mather

As if I could this day depart
without a tear wrung from your heart
but pain would wretch me should I spy
a single tear drop from your eye.

As though I could just walk away
unless I were to hear you say
one loving word, a silken rope,
'lest I should fall devoid of hope.

Heart to heart and mind to mind
how can such lovely eyes be blind ?
And yet 'tis clear they do not see
how very much you mean to me.

I'll hurry then through time and space
and cup my hands to hold your face;
my beating heart in constant race
when holding you in soft embrace

So, may I reach across the miles
to gaze with love upon the smiles
which give me hope that one day soon
we'll dance together 'neath the moon.

With, softly.. rain upon your face
glide on in gentle love's embrace
and passing by each silent place
come close to me and share my space.
