the loss of my little brother

By: catherine peterson

The day you were born
I couldn't stop holding you.
I knew you were my little brother
and we would always be together.

As time went by you would always laugh
until you got very sick
and the doctors said
you were not gonna last.

But, I knew deep down inside you were strong
and that you would get by.
but as time moved on very slowly
and tears filled up in every one's eyes
i could tell that you were ready to die.

but you weren't gonna be alone
you were going to our father's home
where you could laugh and play
and would never feel the pain

but I ran away
feeling all alone
feeling like home wasn't home
without you by my side

but I knew it wasn't right
because you were looking down with pride.
So when I go, please
wait for me at the golden gates
so I can hold you again
and let you know I love you, brother
and I will never let go.

This poem is dedicated to my little brother, Stanley,
who had passed away when he was seven years old.
