Fear

By: Jenni Lee Engle

Over the hill and far away--
the day turns cold and night turns gray.
The day was bright then suddenly shadowed--
by our heart's cold and bitter battle.

With one drop of a tear I shed--
our hearts, together, we had led.
Then out of the blue we had a fight--
and my heart could no longer see the light.

Of all the things I have not done--
I only wish I could do... one.
But, because of all my dread and fear--
I never told you, "I love you, dear".

And, if I had been brave and spoke--
maybe I would not have woke
To find that you had gone away--
Never again to hear you say

How much you loved me so.

Over the hill and far away--
My day grew cold and my night turned gray.
Because I was afraid to say--
How much I loved you, too.
