Just the Moon and Me

By: Mi Singh

Underneath the clear night sky,
The pale moon beckons me.
I tell the moon my secrets
When it's just the moon and me.

The old man's become a familiar face,
Though silent as a stone.
He listens without a single word,
As if he's always known.

I speak of love, of foolish hearts;
I speak of hopes and dreams.
I speak of you and sweet memories.
He smiles, or so it seems.

I confide in him my private hell--
The raging battle for my soul--
Relentless torment, unspeakable turmoil,
Burning desires beyond control.

Somehow I find great comfort
In the wisdom of my silent friend.
Not one to judge, he understands.
I regret the night must end.

With one last sigh, I gaze above
And loft a gentle kiss.
I bid good night; I whisper your name,
And make one last request.

There must be a thousand kisses now
Drifting 'neath the moon.
In time to come, 'twill be a thousand more
I pray he sends you soon.

You'd never guess, when each night
he's there for all the world to see--
The moon knows all my secrets--
Just the moon and me.
