BATHS AND POOLS

By: Anuj Wadhwa

Baths – I love them
Their all-embracing warmth
Lulling me to relaxation,
Massaging all my stresses away,
Making me pleasantly drowsy.
I have much time to spend in them
Now that you’ve left
They have taken your place in my life.

Only...
Yours was always the right temperature for me –
Never too cold, nor too hot.
And you could really reach me
Body, mind and soul.
In your arms I always slept
The peaceful sleep of contentment,
Your heart beating reassuringly with mine.
For me,
It was the best-ever meditation.

Pools – they scare me,
Their depths I could drown in
And who would save me?

Intensity I find difficult to deal with
My feelings for you are at an uncomfortable pitch
More uncertainty than I can deal with
Risky... and I have never bought a lottery.

Yet, when I braved it,
You detachedly stood
At a distance
And played an uninvolved bystander
Just happening to be there.
