Hope

By: Elena Klein

Will he know me when we meet again?
Expecting me to be as young as I was then?
Will there be a veil, a cloud of unknowing?
Or will we embrace
as if, when lovers meet again, footsteps slowing,
searching each other's face
till recognition blinds the eyes with tears
and all the doubts, the hesitations and the fears
that slowed our pace give place to love restored.

The fog of separation clears.
Our ashes mingling under broad green lawns,
where shade trees sift the sun,
will rest unmoved as spirit to spirit drawn
we are no longer two but henceforth one.
