Sanity by my side

By: Daimen A Styles

Sanity slipped by my side,
That night the music died
She caught me with a glance
And my heart she held in her hands,
Together we travelled
On a highway called love
How did I not see the decline of the road?
It was slow but steady
A road that sanity travelled so calmly
Was she always a passenger?
Does she take them all on the same ride?
I was thrown off the night the music died
And sanity slipped by my side.

Sanity left on a path of despair
No one was with me or could even care
What was this journey?
What was this road?
Alone I travelled
On a highway called solitaire.
How did I not see this pattern form?
It was so sudden
A road travelled, precious sanity would not dare.
Was she the driver?
Or is this one man's ride?
I was strapped in the night the music died
And sanity sat by my side.

Sanity sat there and payed with my thoughts
It taunted and teased me but could not be caught
Why is it around me?
Why is it not in me?
Together we travelled
On a highway called dreams
How did I not see the ocean,
As the waves devoured me?
An ocean made for lovers who no one else could love
Is she just a dream of a love I never really tried?
Or is she just a memory swept way in passing tides
Now sanity has slipped away
I fear it may have died.
