critter

By: Jeanette Renee Mullins

underwater deep, feeling love within my veins
under water’s surface, the view's just not the same
everything distorted in an elixir of sweet rain
I continue to swim further, deeper in your name.

drowning in this lovebank, the innocents, the proud –
hiding in your liquid, like a death-defying shroud –
all the world’s been staged, for its one unpracticed piece
redefining magic, just beyond the dry-man’s reach.

float below the surface, just another time or two
it is still uncertain just whoever really knew
what could be the consequence of submerging down this far
who will touch these words now? who will read my scar?

underwater endless, sinking down beyond return
coolness of sweet water enflames the inner burn
though one can never trace exactly where we swam or flew,
all the record I will leave is, "I swam inside of You."
