Song For Alison

By: Randall Eric Staley

Alison, I really want to thank you
For being there when I was in pain
Now you've gone, we both must carry on
The love you have given will remain

Remember when you taught my son at pre-school?
He was only three, he was so confused
He would kick and scream and shout, they were gonna throw him out
You loved him, yes, you were the one God used

You know, Alison, when all is said and done
It's only love that makes this life worthwhile
And listen, Alison, sweet Jesus He's the only one
Who's more loving so please let me see you smile

Through four long years you cared as we two were dating
But that was more than even you could wait
Oh this wall of fear and pride that still holds my heart inside
Please don't think that I did not appreciate

This thing 'divorce' it's such a haunting of sorrows
I still can't forget how my ex-wife just walked away
Can you really understand how that devastates a man?
I just pray that when you marry you will stay

And you know, Alison, when all is said and done
It's only love that makes this life worthwhile
And listen, Alison, sweet Jesus He's the only one
Who's more loving so please let me see you smile

Alison, I really want just to thank you
For being there when I was in such pain
And now although you've gone and we both must carry on
The love you have given will remain...
