For My Protection
A stab to the heart,
A gouge to the eyes,
A knife in the back,
All continue as I cry.
She and I were good friends.
I knew her deeply
And she knew me too,
So perfect, seemingly.
I never let her fall,
Or told her a lie.
I never stopped caring;
To always be there, I tried.
But now she is back with him,
The one who broke her heart,
And can no longer be my friend,
Since they are no longer apart.
She turned her back on me,
During the hardest times of life,
Yet all I can think of,
Is her not to be his wife.
All I can think of
Is the way he can make her hurt,
The way she loves him so;
How she always puts him first.
But I've had enough,
If she hurts, so be it.
I'm not going to be there;
Her pain, I won't even see it.
Because the last time it happened,
I was left in the dark,
And stabbed in the back,
And suffered a broken heart.
So the next time she hurts,
She can learn the hard way.
I won't be there again,
Not again any other day.
I'll leave her alone
To fend for herself,
Because I'm doing the same,
I'm protecting myself.
She will not hurt me again,
Because never will I trust
Someone who stabs my heart,
And pulls back for another thrust.
