I Slept a Year
I had a dream last night, my dear,
That I had slept a year...
To ease the pain and suffering,
But, I woke up to more tears...
My family was relieved for me,
My return had eased their fears...
Last night I had a dream, my dear,
That I had slept a year.
The next night the dream returned,
This time a hundred years...
Everyone I knew was gone,
My friend, colleagues and peers...
It all was so new and strange to me,
Except for those old tears...
Last night I had a dream, my dear,
That I slept a hundred years.
Again I slept, again the dream,
This time a thousand years...
The world had changed, was rearranged,
The differences not mere...
This world, it had no place for me,
Besides, you were not there...
Last night I had a dream my dear,
That I had slept a thousand years.
I fell to sleep and dreamed once more,
This time a million years...
All was dust, man was no more,
No clue they had once been here...
I stood alone, on a far-flung shore,
But it did not bring tears...
For without you, there is naught to do,
With an eternity of years.
