I loved you once

By: Becka Nahele Art

I can't think of all the nights
I stayed awake thinking of you
You have no idea how I used to stare at you in class;
your hair falling over your face
I assumed you always thought of me as your, "little sis"
and never anything more
So, I stopped loving you

I fell asleep every night
with everything but you on my mind
I concentrated on my work
and never looked up once in class
I accepted that you loved my best friend
and I was merely your "little sis"
I succeeded in not loving you

And now, she is gone from us
no longer to see us again, like it or not.
We somehow were pulled together my the memories of her
I started to notice something in your eyes when you looked at me
Crystal clear eyes, like a blue satin lake...and, yet, there was depth.
Old feelings pushed their way up
from where I had carefully stored them
in the pits of my stomach until this very day.
So why am I so disappointed?

Because, I now fall asleep thinking about him
I talk to him every night;
we share secrets
and dreams and memories
And he calls me his "love"
