Across the Landscape
This is where the wind blows
To tell me you are going on,
To whisper of your adventures abroad
Holding the world within your palm.
By my window,
I can see the crossing road
That you will follow when you go,
Your shoulders squared, your back upright.
I’ll look out this same window
To remember saying good bye,
How you would not meet my eyes;
To remember
When I waved my blessings to you
But you wouldn’t look behind.
This is where the wind echoes
The sound of your long ago laughter,
The times you met my eyes,
The times you held me close.
The world is yours to conquer,
And I’d give it all to you,
But that’s a journey of your own,
And all I can do is miss you,
And send my dreams of happiness
Across the landscape
To the one I love.
