Moving On

By: Amy Hampton

Oftentimes I think back on
those days when you were mine.
I'd hold you close all night long;
those days when I "thought" you were mine.

You'd bring me a flower
on days when I was feeling low.
Were you also giving one to her?
How was I to know?

You told me I was the only one.
Were you telling her the same?
I should've known you and her weren't over,
after all, she was your old flame.

I know you said you loved me,
and I meant it when I said I loved you.
How could it have come so easy
for you to say things, so untrue?

Still, I just don't get it,
how you could hurt me so.
You left me feeling so much like dirt.
Why did you have to let go?

So maybe you will marry her,
and she will become your wife.
I know that I'll find someone better,
with whom I'll have a great life.

I'm moving up and moving on,
I'm way past over you.
The time I spent with you was long,
yet somehow I'll get through.

All I ask of you is easy:
Remember the times we had.
Remember how it was.. you and me;
remember the good and the bad.

I'll keep in mind of how I loved you.
I still have the flower you sent.
Please don't forget it's best to be true.
Remember our beginning....and our end.
