I lay beside you, in the dark, listening to you sleep.
After all these years, do you dream of me?
I wish i knew.
You laugh, I try to catch your words,
I don't understand, and smile to myself.
You seem at peace, so vulnerable.
The worries of today are gone, for now.
Cars drive by, headlights flash across the ceiling
like the years of our lives.
How did we get here from there, so fast.
I still have so much love to give.
I remember you watching me today,
I pretended not to notice.
Your worried look, the same old subject, not again.
Is this happening to us, or just me.
I lean over to stare at you in the dark.
You have a frown on your face.
Are you feeling what I'm thinking?
We are so close, wouldn't be surprised.
Future uncertain, but we have a great past.
Good times, bad times
don't know who to feel sorriest for, you or me.
I whisper, Kathy I love you and go to sleep.
