Not About You

This poem is not about you
So why are you upset?

You think that the only thing I can write about is
Our relationship.

I do not deify our union.
I had a life before you and will have one after you

So don't get so mad.
The funny thing is that

Whenever I have written a poem
Or a song, or a composition

And said that it IS about you
You don't believe me unless it is
Something negative.

How many love poems have I asked you to read?
How many ballads have I played to serenade you?

How many times have I asked your opinion and
Tried to get your attention on a
Newly created work?

So this poem is not about you, because
You don't really want it to be.
You only want to see what you
Want to see.
