Love Play
If life's a play upon a stage
then read with me each scripted page.
Perform with me a scene of love,
sychronized as hand in glove.
When arrows fly from Cupid's bow,
play Juliette to my Romeo.
Though I cannot look upon your face
or hold you close in love's embrace,
No mason's work is strong enough
to deny my uttering words of love,
though there may exist a wall between us,
play Thisbe to my Pyramus
If other people intervene
To prevent us playing love's sweet scene
In the silvery garden lit by moon;
we'll come together very soon.
I'll ask, with love words whispered low,
Play Roxanne to my Cyrano.
If not too busy with cupid's bow
to let your honest feelings show
be more than just my dearest friend
if we should meet at river's bend.
I'll bow and ask you very politely
Play Emma to my Mr. Knightly
