The Seventh Day

By: Joseph Daniel Warkentine

While God rested, he began to play
With a lump of left over clay
He had created oceans
And the sky above

Now he toyed with the idea of love
Of all manner of creature
Did His creation feature
Even the turtle dove

He had made Man and Woman from the clay of the Earth
Now, as He played, an idea was given birth
On that seventh day he tossed away
His left over clay

From the air he took the wind
From the sun he stole a ray
From the ocean he took the spray
And created love another way

With His breath He gave it life
Then from his rest
He put it to the test
And Adam took a wife

What of the ocean’s salt spray, you ask
For that He had given a special task
Love must be given, you see
But just the same it is not free

The salt in a lover’s tear
Is sometimes the price we pay
When He created love another way
That fateful seventh day
