Please Don't Break My Heart

By: Nadia Varkovsky

Wise men say
That I’m a fool
Because I choose to fall in love
With you

Could it possibly be true?
Could they possibly be right?
Oh, it’s so hard to believe
That this love is never meant to be

So many tears have been shed
So much hurt has been felt
So much love has been given
With nothing in return

Have you forgotten the moment
When you promised not to break my heart?
Have you forgotten the one night
When true love seemed possible?

I lay down on my bed
Waiting for the call that never came
My heart leaped every time the phone rang
Only to be disappointed again and again

I long to hear your gorgeous voice
I miss your saintly countenance
I want to hug your flawless figure
And kiss those sweet lips of yours

None of those were to be found
Oh no, nowhere at all
All I found was the loneliness of night
And the freezing cold of winter

There was only silence
As balls of tears formed
And crimson liquid began to flow
From the depths of my soul

Can I have your heart
‘Cause I already gave you mine
I’m not asking for much
Your love is all I need

They may say I’m a fool
But I know who you are
And I can’t promise you anything
Except my eternal loyalty

You don’t have to return my love
Nor do I expect sacrifice from you
There is only one thing I ask
Please don’t break my heart
