Christmas Eve At Home

By: Gloria Jean Berry

We all come together each Christmas Eve night
With lights on the Christmas tree twinkling bright
The tables all loaded with goodies galore
And presents are stacked knee deep on the floor.
The children are there, with bright shining faces,
The knick-knacks are all, once again, in their places.
We've had "baby's' first Christmas" time and again
I'm sure there'll be others, though I don't know just when.
The grown-ups are all filled with good holiday cheer
And Grandpa has gone to the fridge for a beer.
The Mistletoe's hung, everyone gets their kisses
There's some done with passion and lots of near misses.
We sit near the tree filled with great expectations
Our smiles are as warm as the gay decorations
While presents are given each child, one by one,
It's really the grown-ups that have the most fun.
The presents are wonderful, each wrapped with such care
But, the best gift of all is the love that is there.
