I Must Go

By: T A Sykes

I can feel your melancholy woes,
But I must go.
Something calls out to me.
I don’t want to leave you,
But I have to find myself.

It’s not us, I promise.
Nothing you did or said.
Not that I don’t love you.
If I could stay within this confine
Of an empty shell I would.
But, there is nothing here.

My soul grows colder,
With each glacial breath.
Soon there will be no more me.
It rips me apart to do this,
But I must go.

You need to be here.
Your ties and duties dictate.
If you must find another, then do.
I’m sure you’ll be happy.
(That’s what I have to believe.)

Please know I will always love you.
And perhaps you will reciprocate.
But at this moment, for now,
...I must go.

I’m sorry... I love you.
