Life Changed That Day

By: Sk...

I remember that day,
and just how I felt,
the deck had been stacked,
a bad hand was dealt.

Felt my world shattering,
as the tears began to fall,
seeing the look on his face
as he approached the hall.

He was very direct,
never minced any words,
"your husband is dying"
is all that I heard.

I was nearly speechless,
spoke with a slur,
everything around me
became such a blur.

My heart on the floor,
for all the world to see,
I was sick to my stomach,
very weak in my knees.

He took me by the hand,
led me down the hall,
"if you need anything,
please give me a call."

I tried to smile,
as he walked away,
I knew in my heart,
life changed that day.

Memories and thoughts
rushed through my mind,
courage and strength
I would need to find.

Facing the children
was very hard to do.
I held back the tears,
but Nick could see through.

I held him close,
not sure of what to say,
for he already knew,
life changed that day.

We played with Nathan,
trying hard to pretend.
We smiled at each other
with heartbroken grins.

From that day forth,
we knew it could be,
once a family of four,
could soon be three.

"I Love You," please
take the time to say,
'cause I know for me,
life changed that day.
