UNDER THE OLE TREE

By: Charlotte Lee Johnson

He used to sit on the back porch,
Drinking his strong, black coffee.
With the shade of the ole Pine Tree ,
And watching the birds, he, so, liked to see.
~
He was a different but good man,
With a wonderful sense of humor.
One that made MY heart skip a beat.
When our eyes always used to meet.
~
We had many years, some good and bad,
But when you totalled them all up,
All knew what we really had,
Was a lifetime of joy and far from sad.
~
So, as I start this lonely new journey,
I know he would want me to stay strong,
Knowing that anything else would be wrong,
And maybe, someday, I will again feel I belong.
~
So, as I visit him now under the ole shade tree,
His name in stone there for all to see,
Flowers of blue.. his favorite color,
Marks the place of my dear husband and lover.
