Breaking me

By: Rebecca Hazel Clegg

If I let you have me.
Will you break me?
If you answer yes,
We already have a problem,
Because I am not one of your promises
So easily broken,
Or, too easily forgotten,
Don't throw me in the attic of your mind
With the memories of your cherished childhood.
Do not underestimate who I am, or who I want to be.
Once upon a time I heard
Illusions are dangerous people, they have no flaws.
Some nights I lie awake and wonder,
Is the illusion you...
Or is it me?

Did you ever love me?
I guess that's one of those questions
I will never know the answer to
'Cause I really don't want to know the truth.
Unfortunately mortification doesn't kill
That would be the easy way out.
Maybe sometimes the easy way out
Is the right way out
And sometimes it's not.
Sometimes I'm just as scared as you
I am scared to think if I give you my heart
You'll control me completely
And there will be nothing I can do
to stop you,
from breaking me.
