comparing flowers

By: David Fronius

she stood in the doorway
a single rose held near her heart
ah, to be just one petal there
skin touching skin
two loves, intertwined, inseparable
and when I approached her
there in the glow of a midday sun
the odor of flower and of her
was overcoming, so I held her close
it was soon after I felt the pain and joy
the thorn that pricked my breast
the petal that soothed my soul
and what had began as pain to the flesh
transcended to the wonderment that was her
I shall never look at another flower
the same again...
