If only they knew

By: Stephanie Lynn Joiner

The way he walks
The way he talks
The way he stole my heart...
The way he stole my life

The sweet eyes
The big smile
The soothing words...
The harshness of his blows

The way he made me feel when I said I was fat
Or when I was having a bad hair day...
Or when I had to hide the black eye he gave me

It was okay at first,
He only did it sporadically
Once or twice a month
But when he lost his job
They became worse...

Here comes the blow
I can feel it before it hits
The pain is bad,
But I am used to it.

When I tell people that he is doing this
They think “He won’t do that he loves you”
When I show them the brusies someone comes up with an excuse.

His is mad again,
This time I don’t think that I can live
The pain is worse than ever
and the day is turning into blackness

Then he stops,
I hear the police
I hear my best friend trying to get him off of me...
All I can think is that it is over...
I can live...

The way he walks
The way he talks
The way he stole my heart...
The sweet eyes
The big smile
The soothing words...
