The Violin

By: Debra Sue Helms

You say to me "I love you"
and that I set your heart aglow
You told me how he needed me
just not too long ago.

But now you are so distant
as if I am not there.
You act so cold and unfeeling
as if you never really did care.

You always say you're busy
and just come by to say goodnight
But when you softly kiss my cheek
I smell her perfume from when you held her tight.

You smile that smile as you say you miss me
then you quickly turn away
leaving me no choice but to tell you this:
No longer will I be the violin you PLAY.
