Pain of Innocence

By: Joseph R. Mann

Tender years and heartache tears,
vulnerability on the rise.
A beautiful smile gone out of style,
foolish dreams of sunset eyes.

Mixed emotion and dying devotion,
what is one to think?
Running away gives hell to pay,
pass him another drink.

Secrets are told and feelings unfold,
his world is on the line.
Bottled up pride, a thorn in his side,
and everything's going to be fine?

A story and forgotten glory,
he wants his identity back.
Broken spirit, not an honorable merit,
another world fades to black.
