You're Gone

By: Jenna Elizabeth-Marie King

I came home from school to see this look on my family's faces.
It seemed as if something was gone or out of place.
I looked at my Mom to ask what was wrong,
but then she started crying before too long.
I knew something was going on and I didn't know what...
until my Dad looked over at me and said, "Uncle John was hung."

If anyone should feel hung it's me.
I wasn't there to say good-bye and why would he hang himself to die?
He had it all, a wife and two cute little boys.
One's name was Johnathan and the other was Harvey,
who tended to make a lot of noise.

When I went to the funeral I couldn't move or make a sound,
my heart felt like it was going to stop
and then I saw his sons and thought what they may have thought.
"Why is Daddy lying in there, Mommy?" I heard one of them ask.
If only you knew, so I didn't hesitate to ask...

He had some issues just like the rest of us do,
but he found his own way out and one day so will you...
And if this poem could fix their home, I'd read it every day....
