The Ex-Novel
I added another chapter to my book tonight.
Just when I had come up with a perfect ending,
one to put even the greatest author to shame,
another situation came along,
and I just couldn't get you out of my mind.
So I continued to write and let this book of pain go on.
I don't know why,
But I can't stop it on my own.
The thoughts just keep coming,
and my mind just keeps running over them again and again.
Maybe someday I'll return to a dust filled typewriter,
and read my forgotten piece.
Then I will find that my ending came after all,
at a time when I least expected it,
and I will finally be over you.
But that day's not today.
So, I'll keep on writing until that day comes.
