AND WE ARE TOGETHER

By: M. J. Steele

The sneering looks and doubting laughter
when first we were together, became
disbelieving stares and uncomfortable smiles
when we did not part. Naysayers with
watchful eyes wondered how it could be so.

And we are together.

We have survived the seasons of love;
Searing heat of passionate summer and
paralyzing cold of complacent winter;
Thrilling promise of vibrant spring and
overwhelming pain of frosty autumn.

And we are together.

We will not laugh at those who scoffed at us,
but pity them for not understanding love---
And why we are together.
